Some of the most important changes in version 5.3 reflect ProductCart's commitment to the best possible application security and performance. The centerpiece here is a comprehensive update to ProductCart's jQuery library, which has been causing issues with some types of security scans and recent browser updates. Included in this update is the use of new scripting for the Home Page Slideshow which is compatible with the updated jQuery library. A new Slideshow Scheduler is also included with the scripting revision, to allow admin users to set dates and times for specific slides to appear in the slideshow rotation!
In the near future, the jQuery and slideshow scripting updates also will be made available as a patch for version 5.2.1 stores.
Version 5.3 removes all coding and database features that implemented the Offline Credit Card legacy function found in previous versions. The removal of this code enables stores to continue to achieve PCI compliance. Please note that with the release of ProductCart 5.3, this legacy function in all prior versions will no longer be supported under ProductCart's Technical Support & Updates Plan. Account-based, COD, Net 30 and other offline payment methods will still be available.
Another new Home Page feature right in time for the Holiday retail season is the Banner Manager, which allows admin users to create and schedule promotional text that can be placed anywhere in your storefront's theme. These text banners can also be scheduled ahead of time!
Other new features in ProductCart 5.3 include:
• The ability for Configurator users to set multiple default options in product configurations
• A Quick Order Entry System for customers who frequently order the same products
• A Categories and Brands Widget to enhance cross-selling
Shortly following the release of ProductCart 5.3, the Notify Me app will be available in the ProductCart App section of the control panel. This app will allow your customers to sign up to receive an email notification when an item they're interested in is back in stock! Be sure to check it out in early November.
How to Get the Update...
ProductCart 5.3 is FREE for all merchants with a current Support & Updates plan.
Simply use the "Check for Updates" link under the Help Menu in your ProductCart Control Panel to find, download, and install the update. Be sure to follow instructions included with the download carefully.
Version 5.3 is an incremental update to your ProductCart software. The update link to version 5.3 only appears in stores running either version 5.2 or 5.2.1. Stores running versions prior to 5.2 will need to first update to either 5.2 or 5.2.1 .
